On Carla Sonheim – the Heart of the Matter

Written by on July 28, 2012 in Art Camp for Women, Art Classes, Carla Sonheim with 1 Comment

Carla Sonheim will be teaching October 9-12 for our Mini-Deluxe Camp and the first part of  The Works! this coming fall.

In order for you to get a better sense of who is coming to teach, we interviewed Carla.  The resulting article  is written from the inside out to get you all the juicy parts first…and really get right to the heart of the matter.

Carla at Play - if she was at Work you would be able to see a computer!

AC4W: In the mixed-media art world there seems to be a distinct avoidance of drawing or even mentioning drawing, or a prevailing thought that drawing is difficult – what do you say to that?

Does this look familiar?

This book is working really well for my Art Journaling Every Day with Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.

I am going to California next week for my son’s wedding. Suddenly I am obsessed with nice clothes – sheesh.  Once I got clear about what I want to wear by drawing some pictures and thinking about the weather I found several pieces for reasonable prices (free – but that’s another story). It hadn’t occurred to me to use my journal for thinking through something like wardrobe, but when journaling every day, it seems the natural place to figure it out.

Kelli Nina Perkins 2012

Kelli Nina Perkins 2012

Kelli Nina Perkins will be teaching at the Deluxe Art Camp for Women this coming October. She has graciously agreed to do a guest post on our blog in honor of her place in a new book The Sketchbook Challenge Book.

Read clear to the end of this post for chances to win a prize with the Sketchbook Challenge as well as another stack of prizes from Art Camp for Women.

Take it away Kelli…

One of the things I appreciate most about Art Camp for Women is how the encouragement goes on all year long, with free journal prompts and projects! You’ll feel nurtured to continue your artistic work, wherever you are in your journey. Who knows where a simple sketch or image culled from your art journal can take you? Using your own artwork as a repeating motif is the mixed media version of recycling and I do it all the time. It’s one of my reasons for keeping journals.

The Altered Ledger Journal #3 – Keep an Art Journal

The Altered Ledger Journal is giving me great joy!

My Morning Rituals

My Morning Rituals

I find myself adding exactly what is filling my morning to the pages.  The urge to write is pushing me right along with my urge to be outside and to do my morning run. In fact all of my morning rituals are finding their way onto my pages.

Meditation and Seed Puffs

Meditation and Seed Puffs

In the evenings when I want to slow down and relax I find adding color and pattern to be sustaining and soothing at the same time.  It seems to be easy enough to stay a few pages ahead of the daily journaling and to have plenty of time to try different palates or to change tacks completely. Thanks to Julie at Art Journaling Every Day for the encouragement.
